「figure」という言葉は、形、姿、像、人物像といった意味を持つ。 語源は、fingere ─こねる、形づくる、作り出す─という行為にある。 そして同じ語源は、想像によって構成されたものを指す fiction にもつながっている。 二人の作家は、ともに生命を帯びたモチーフを扱いながら、それぞれ異なる存在を 画面のなかに形づくっている。 そこに現れるのは、観察された生物の姿だけではなく、記憶や思想、物語性などが 重なり合うことで生まれるフィギュアである。


-Artist Statement-

私にとって描くことは、言葉にならない想いや、心の内に留まり続けるものを見つめる、ごく自然なことでした。それは幼い頃から変わらぬものでしたが、描き続けるうちに「小さな生きものたち」が作品の中に現れるようになりました。それぞれがそれぞれの思いや記憶を抱えながら、私自身の感覚と結びつき、息をしています。絵画と陶、「ふたつ」の表現を行き来しながら制作することで、それぞれの作品が少しずつ混じり合い「ひとつ」の世界が形になっていきます。それは私自身の経験から生まれたものですが、観る人それぞれの記憶や感覚と重なって、その人の大切な物語や風景へ、つながっていけば嬉しく思います。今回の展示では、そんなひとつの世界にふと立ち止まり、自分の心に残っている感覚や記憶に静かに目を向ける小さなきっかけになれば嬉しいです。

FRAGILE
「こわれやすいいきもの」をテーマに、平面と立体作品を制作している。平面作品では、誰もが経験するにもかかわらず、その実態を知ることのできない「死」を主題とする。存在したことは確かでありながら誰もその姿を知らない「恐竜」や、多くの生き物に共通する「骨」をモチーフに、生命の存在と不在、その曖昧な境界を描く。立体作品では、生命が失われた後も残る「痕跡」として骨や言葉をモチーフに、それらを日常の中で消費される器やオブジェへと重ね合わせる。異なる媒体を通して見つめているのは、生命の儚さだけではない。消費し消費されながら生きる葛藤と、それでもなお自分を奮い立たせる言葉や、存在の痕跡のあり方を問い続けている。

The word “figure” carries meanings such as form, shape, image, and figure or person. Its origin lies in the Latin word fingere — to knead, to shape, to form, to create. The same root is also connected to the word “fiction,” referring to something constructed through imagination.
Both artists work with motifs that seem to carry life within them, while each gives shape to distinct forms of existence within the picture plane. What emerges is not merely the appearance of observed living beings, but figures born from the layering of memory, thought, and narrative.


-Artist Statement-

Shinyoung

For me, drawing has always been a natural way of looking closely at feelings that cannot be put into words, and at things that continue to remain within the heart. This has not changed since childhood, but as I continued to draw, “small living beings” began to appear in my works.
Each of them holds its own thoughts and memories, connecting with my own senses and quietly breathing within the work. By moving back and forth between two forms of expression — painting and ceramics — each work gradually mingles with the others, giving shape to one unified world.
Although this world is born from my own experiences, I hope it may also overlap with the memories and sensations of each viewer, connecting to their own precious stories and landscapes. Through this exhibition, I hope visitors may pause for a moment within this world, and find a small opportunity to quietly turn their attention toward the feelings and memories that remain in their own hearts.

FRAGILE

FRAGILE creates two-dimensional and three-dimensional works under the theme of “fragile living beings.”
In the two-dimensional works, the artist takes “death” as a central subject — something everyone experiences, yet whose true nature no one can know. Using motifs such as dinosaurs, whose existence is certain though no one has ever seen them, and bones, which are common to many living beings, the works depict the presence and absence of life, and the ambiguous boundary between them.
In the three-dimensional works, bones and words appear as “traces” that remain even after life has been lost, layered onto vessels and objects consumed in everyday life.
What the artist observes through these different media is not only the fragility of life. The works continue to question the conflict of living while consuming and being consumed, the words that nevertheless encourage us to keep going, and the ways in which traces of existence remain.
